Heavy Metal: It all began in the late 60's when a band known as Blue
Cheer assaulted audiences with loud, heavily distorted blues-based psychedelic rock. It was an alarming antithesis to
the squeaky-clean sap-fest that typified 50's rock and pop. It itself wasn't heavy metal- but it was the father and it's offspring
was bands like King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Venom, Motorhead and many others. These were the founders and
pioneers of this, the world's most dynamic, most controversial, most loved AND feared forms of music in the world. And while
it gets virtually NO recognition, Alabama has a large number of talented bands and artists who wield the metal most rightously.
This site is dedicated to honoring and promoting those bands as well as the area's music scene - such as it is. So put
on your patch and buttons-covered denim jacket, strap on those spiked armbands and rock on with Metalabama!!
